About

What is PODS?

The Parents Overcoming Depression Supported (PODS) playgroup is for mums working through post natal depression, and their children.

What happens at PODS?

The PODS playgroup operates as a regular playgroup. We sing nursery rhymes, have craft activities and play outside in the sandpit and on bikes. We DO NOT sit around and talk about depression BUT if someone wants to talk about difficulties there is always a sympathetic ear on hand.

Who runs PODS?

PODS is facilitated by parents in the group. They are supported in this by Kate Goodridge, a mum who experienced post natal depression.

How much does it cost?

It’s free! PODS has been fully subsidized by the West Preston Baptist Church. This means it is free for women to attend, although a gold coin donation to help cover tea and coffee is always welcome. Although the church pays for the group, there is no religious focus in the group. Kate’s role has been paid for by BaptCare, a charitable arm of the Baptist Church.

Do I need to have been diagnosed with Post Natal Depression to join the group?

No. Women who are struggling with the changes brought on by new motherhood are welcome to join the group. While it is helpful to have some other support (such as counselling) before joining the group, it is not essential.

How can I join?

You are most welcome to just turn up and join us on Monday (during school terms) from 10am-12pm. We meet at the West Preston Baptist Church, cnr Cramer St and Gilbert Rd, West Preston, Melbourne. Or contact Kate Goodridge on 0425 211 073 for a chat.

How is money raised to cover the costs for PODS?

PODS playgroup relies on donations to cover costs. You can make a donation through the BaptCare website, donations are tax deductible. Simply go to https://donations.baptcare.org.au/ making sure you select “West Preston PND Support Program” in the drop down box next to the ‘I am donating to’ field.
